Review : VILE REGRESSION – ‘Empires’ Posted: 20/11/2014 by John O'Brien

On what is there seven year anniversary, VILE REGRESSION have delivered what may very well be hailed as a future Irish metal classic. With Padraig Croke and Brian Brady making their debuts on this record for the band, they show no signs of slowing down on unleashing their technical style of metal upon the World. Drawing from various influences, VILE REGRESSION seem to have really settled into their sound after their previous releases.

The production on the album is astounding from the second ‘Tides’ begins you are hit with what can only be described as a sledge hammer. Growling guitars and a voice that would make Phil Anselmo jealous. These guys are bent on destruction and are taking no prisoners on their mission. ‘Dream Of The Red Chamber’ and ‘Down To A Sunless Sea’ show off Baz and Brian’s guitar skills. However with songs like ‘The Abstract’ they have tapped into their niche sound.

This is a quality release that will make any listener sit up and take notice. With a rising talent such as this, any band they play alongside will no doubt feel a little unnerved at the prospect of having to follow these guys. If you get the chance to catch them live, make a point if it to check them out. You will not be disappointed!
