Killer Watt Thrash Metal / Co. Dublin
KILLER WATT were a Speed Metal band from Dublin Ireland. The band was started back in 1985 by drummer Steve and bassist Sid who recruited Marcus Burns on guitar, in ’86 Marcus decided to leave so Ratz joined on guitar and Git on vocals. In 1987 they recorded the 3 track ‘DEATH EP’ which managed to get into the Irish Top 30 chart at the time. Soon after that they decided to add a second guitarist so Derek Sweeney joined. That year they appeared on the Irish TV Music Show Mega Mix doing a cover of the SEX PISTOLS track ‘Pretty Vacant’. In 1988 the band decided to split up. By which time “Ratz” was already playing in CHROMATIC DEATH.
It’s pretty typical thrash style metal for the time. The EP itself is really good. But like a lot of emerging Irish metal acts of the time, it was all too little too late. Straight up thrash had almost run its course and the attention of the metal masses was starting to shift. Not that thrash ever really went away. Just lost some of it’s popularity.
