Do you know: Black Shuck Posted: 14/06/2019 by Philip Morrissey

For those of you who know, Saturday marks the debut of Metal United Worldwide in Cork. For anyone unaware, this is an event which takes place around the globe on the very same day. Gigs are being hosted in various countries including Australia, Thailand, Brazil, USA, Indonesia, Poland, Albania, Mexico, China, Germany and many more.

The Irish of this event is due to take place in Cyprus Avenue on Saturday 15th from 1.PM on-wards. It is scheduled to be a huge show with many different bands performing at it. Some may be familiar to you. Some may not. Here is an introduction to the many bands due to lineup.

Another band to emerge recently is that of Black Shuck from Galway. They came out of the ashes of Negativ Result to create a stripped down, nastier version of their previous band. They are poised to be a pummeling experience for those present. There is just something about metal from the West of Ireland.

Even their name has dark connections. “The name comes from English folklore; the Black Shuck is a black dog that was taken as a bad omen.”

Each of the member offered up a different variant on the bands who most inspired them. “Ian (drums) Metallica, Brendan (Guitar/Vocals) Pantera, Thomas (Bass) Mastodon”

It is clear to know what is their best live memory. “Favourite show so far has to be the Bloodstock Metal to the Masses shows! Got to see such great bands and great to see so many people showing up to support Irish bands.” This competition allowed them the opportunity to play at the prestigious international festival in the UK.

Regarding bands to play support to, they manage to stay away from the obvious. “Its tempting to “Metallica” and leave it at that. But we’ll be a little more professional! Has to be Gojira, one of the coolest bands around at the moment.”

From taking part Metal to the Masses, they are aware of the talent Ireland has to offer. “It’s really good! People are starting to get out and see just how many fantastic bands there are in this country.”

An interesting thought is offered up regarding what bands might be able to develop out of Metal United. To further expand the concept of bands coming together from all around the world. “We think it’s a great idea! We’d love to see it develop into a network to help bands gig swap and the like.”

Two bands especially tick off the list regarding who they wish to catch this Saturday. “Has to be Kill All the Gentlemen and Xero.”

And the plans in the immediate future is obvious. “Will be playing in the Jagermeister tent at Bloodstock this year! Saturday, the 10th of August. Come find us if you’re there!”

Black Shuck will be the second stage at about 14:15. It would be bad luck to miss them.
