The UK’s greatest cult band UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS return with their fourth album “The Night Creeper” and their biggest tour to date.
Recorded at Toe Rag Studios in early 2015 with engineer Liam Watson (WHITE STRIPES, TAME IMPALA, ELECTRIC WIZARD), “The Night Creeper” oozes louche evil. Here flesh-melting riffs that creep like hot magma bubbling up through the earth’s crust combine with an ear for melody born out of the bands love for girl groups like THE RONETTES and THE SHANGRI-LA’S. Sabbath-meets-Spector. It’s a heady combination.
“The Night Creeper” has a distinct concept as a starting point. “The idea is that this album could have started life as an old cheap, grime-covered 25 cent pulp paperback like the type sold at news-stands outside train stations,” says enigmatic band leader Kevin Starrs. “But then perhaps it is adapted into a film noir, which itself is then re-made twenty years later as an ultraviolent, slasher Italian Giallo film. The album follows this aesthetic lineage as it descends from trash to noir to something discernibly darker…”
UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS have been called many thing: a subversive, dark-hearted, pop band who sing about death and murder; a psyche-frazzling heavy psychedelic band; the greatest cult quartet in the British rock scene by a country mile; the heirs apparent to the dark satanic majesty of both The BEATLES and BLACK SABBATH.
They exist in their own self-created world, hoovering up trash/pop culture and spitting it back out in hot chunks of finely hewn riffola and righteous rock ‘n roll noise. UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS’s breakthrough album “Blood Lust” (2011) was a homage to British Hammer and folk horror films of the 1970s, a candle-lit head-trip of withered hands, ritual knives and gallows ropes. “Mind Control” (2013) looked further afield, to the post-Charles Manson US for inspiration: Jim Jones dosing the Kool-Aid. BLUE CHEER, BLUE OYSTER CULT and B-movie biker movies. War, Watergate, serial killers and suicidal TV evangelists.
And now comes “The Night Creeper”, their darkest journey yet.
“The Night Creeper” is released September 4th 2015 on Rise Above Records.
SPIDERS is a Gothenburg based band featuring Ann-Sofie Hoyles, John Hoyles, Olle Griphammar and Ricard Harryson.
SPIDERS was formed in Gothenburg in February 2010. A few months later the band appeared at one of Sweden’s most successful music festivals, Way Out West. It was around this time SPIDERS for the first time as a band stepped into the studio with producer Don Ahlsterberg (The Soundtrack of Our Lives, International Noise Conspiracy) and started recording. By the end of January 2011 SPIDERS released their debut record, a 10” vinyl EP on Crusher Records containing four tracks. The self-titled release was very well received and noticed in Record Collector as well airplayed on Sweden’s largest radio channel P3. In May 2011 SPIDERS stepped into the studio for the second time recording a two track single to be released on vinyl by De:Nihil Records in August and digital by Crusher Records in September.
In June 2012 SPIDERS began recording songs for their debut album. In early October the very same year the album, entitled “Flash Point”, was released. The album immediately reached the Sverigetopplistan, the Swedish Sales Charts of most sold albums. In November and December SPIDERS went on European tour together with GRAVEYARD. By the end of the year SPIDERS’ debut album was nominated by P3 Gold (Swedish Radio Award) for best Rock/Metal of the Year. In 2013 the band appeared on Sweden Rock Festival, the largest rock festival in Sweden, and toured Scandinavia as well as Spain and Portugal. In 2014 SPIDERS supported Kvelertak in Scandinavia and Blood Ceremony throughout Europe. In May 2014 the band released the single “Mad Dog” via Reaktor Recordings / Universal Music.
