CORK: 96/1 City Wide Music Festival… Posted: 25/08/2016 by John O'Brien
This Friday and Saturday, the 26th and 27th August 2016, sees Cork pubs and venues open their doors to showcase an absolute wealth of musical talent from around the country, and appealing to all musical styles, genres and tastes. Plenty for everyone! And made even better this year for Rock and Metal fans with some amazing bands lined up to hit Cork.
“96/1 is a unique event being run in Cork City on August 26th & 27th. The idea behind it is to have 96 original bands/artists play on 1 weekend in Cork City to promote the live music scene in Ireland.
96/1 began as a mere idea, by Festival Director Pearse McCarthy. However, with the help of a team, this idea eventually became reality. The festival had it’s debut in August of 2015, and was a roaring success. Showcasing talent from all around Ireland, 96/1 provided a much needed platform for original artists, who wouldn’t normally get the chance to play a festival.
Last year the team saw the festival spread throughout 27 venues around the city, as well as a stage on Emmett Place during the day. Bands travelled from all over the country – from Donegal to Dublin, to be part of something unique. The event was heralded by musicians and bands who played, as well as venues that took part in the music trail, and of course, the public that attended the event!
2016 sees the growth of the festival to new heights – instead of a one night event, it has become an event spanning the weekend of the 26th and 27th of August. With new venues, and new acts, the festival is set to become one of Cork’s staple summer events!
The team are delighted to see Cork’s 96fm return as media partners for the event, as well as Murphys Cork who also sponsored us last year.”
