Assassin Rock / Co. Dublin

ASSASSIN were a Hard Rock / Heavy Metal style band from Dublin.

They formed in 1984 and eventually split up in 1988 or 1989, as far as I can tell. Vocalist David P. Byrne would go on to perform with FRIDAY’s CHILD in 1990, as well as various other projects.

They had two tracks titled ‘Don’t Run For Cover’ and ‘UXB’ feature on the 1985 ‘Green Metal : New Irish Heavy Metal Comp-LP’. They also released one 7″ single in 1987 on Solid Records called ‘Stealin’, which was produced by ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke (FASTWAY, MOTORHEAD). They performed this song a number of times on TV. The also had a session recorded at the BBC studios at Maida Vale, London for the Friday Night Rock Show with Tommy Vance. At least one track has surfaced from this titled ‘Down To Love’.

There is talk about another single callled ‘Lost Without Your Love’, but I can’t find anything definite about it. Although there are dozens of metal bands call ASSASSIN, so it could be a single from one of them too.
